Fur seals at Bruny Island – Tasmania

Fur seals occasionally visit the Redlands but their normal habitat is southern Australia.

At the southern end of Bruny Island in Tasmania are some small islets known as The Friars.

These kelp fringed rocky outcrops in the Southern Ocean are a ‘haul-out’ place for male fur seals.

A Bruny Island Cruise on 10 January gave a brief opportunity to visit The Friars and take photos of fur seals.

Some of my photos are shown in the gallery below – click to enlarge them and progress through the gallery.
